Updating Virus Definitions when Off-site (Away from City)

(Windows 2000/XP)

 

  1. Open Internet window

 

  1. Go to the Symantec web site for Virus Definitions Download

  1. Highlight (in box)

“Symantec Anti-virus Corporate Edition”

 

  1. Select button  [Download Updates]

 

  1. Screen appears for Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition

 

  1. Look under heading “Client Install on Windows Platforms (32-bit)”

 

  1. Click once on file name  “2007mmdd-xxx-i32.exe”

where mm=month;  dd=day of the month  (BE SURE that you have the ‘i32’ version!!)

 

  1. Prompt for file download, depends on prompt screen that appears

 

  1. Select [Run]

 

  1. Screen appears for ‘opening’ with time estimates. Please wait!

 

  1. Screen appears for ‘Security Warning’ with prompt of “Do you want to run the software?”

 

  1. Select [Run]

 

  1. Screen appears for “Symantec Intelligent updater” with prompt of “Do you want to update your virus definition files?”

 

  1.  Select  [Yes]

 

  1.  Screen runs through  …unzipping…generating definitions…zipping files….

If it start “Searching disk”, then select  [Skip Drive]

 

  1. Select  [OK]

 

  1. Close Internet window

 

  1. Right click on yellow shield icon in task bar, select ‘Open Symantec AntiVirus”

 

  1. Review at bottom of screen for date within “Virus Definition File, Version”.  The date should be the same date as the screen showed for the file download on the Symantec web site.
