Fire Prevention and Inspections
|
The Fire Prevention Division is made up of four full-time staff members, three of whom are sworn officers and one is clerical. The division is supervised by the Deputy Chief of EMS-Prevention. Prevention personnel are responsible for enforcing state building fire codes, investigating fires, coordinating public fire education efforts, and inspecting underground and aboveground storage tanks. They also spend time supporting shift personnel who need their expertise and support in conducting inspections in schools, hospitals, theaters, and large manufacturing firms; reviewing building and remodeling projects; and conducting occupancy inspections. Fire personnel conduct approximately 4,500 fire inspections each year on commercial properties and apartments with three or more units. Prevention personnel also work cooperatively with the Eau Claire Police Department and other law enforcement agencies to improve fire investigation outcomes in the Eau Claire community. The Eau Claire Fire Department enforces the Wisconsin Administrative Code. A copy of the fire code can be viewed in the Fire Prevention Division office. |
