The decision to include the City’s Sustainability Plan in the existing Comprehensive Plan was a natural fit since sustainable development reaches across all elements of comprehensive planning.

A highly participatory process was conducted to develop the chapter and goal statement; “making certain that principles of sustainability in the Eau Claire area are followed to improve our quality of life by meeting present environmental, economic, and social needs without compromising the ability of future generations to do the same.”

This overarching goal has ten objectives (energy planning, local food, climate change, etc.) set forth in the plan to address areas of community sustainability. A five year implementation program is included to see that policies are realized.
