Rules/Regulations

Beaches
State Statute 254.46 (Beaches) requires the local health department to close or restrict swimming; diving and recreational bathing if a human health hazard exists in any area used for those purposes on a body of water and on associated land and requires the posting of those areas.

Locally, the health department will consider closing an established beach location if the levels of E. coli exceed an EPA-established guideline and/or if the beach area received 3 inches or more of rainfall in one 24-hour period. Beaches are closed and reopened in cooperation with the City of Eau Claire Parks and Recreation Department and the Eau Claire County Parks & Forest Department.

The designated public beaches of Eau Claire County currently being tested by the Health Department are:
  • Lake Altoona Beach
  • Riverview Park
  • Half Moon Beach
  • Big Falls
  • Eau Claire Lake Beach
  • Coon Fork Lake (campground and picnic area)
For questions regarding beach closures, please contact us
  • Wisconsin Beaches
