Environmental Health Services

Environmental health is defined by State Statute Chapter 254 as the assessment, management, control and prevention of environmental factors that may adversely affect the health, safety or well being of individuals. This department's environmental health and laboratory division staff are highly trained in environmental, public health and laboratory science to carry out these responsibilities.

Environmental Health Goals:
  • Prevent human health hazards and disease
  • Prevent surface and recreational water pollution
  • Prevent drinking water contamination
  • Protect the food supply
  • Help provide safe housing and lead-safe environments
  • Ensure the proper treatment and disposal of waste water and sewage
  • Ensure the proper storage, collection, transportation and disposal of garbage/refuse
  • Protection from radiation and radioactive materials, devices, and products
  • Reduce human exposure to air contaminants
