City Bike Trails

Bicycling is an efficient and convenient mode of transportation that provides a high degree of independence, flexibility, and freedom of choice relative to schedule and destination. The City of Eau Claire has 13 miles of bike trails. These year round trails are used by a variety of users, including bicycle commuters, recreational bicyclists, families, pedestrians, & skaters.

Goals


The goals of the trail system is to:

  • Promote bicycling and walking as a usable transportation choice
  • Links parks and opens spaces with neighborhood communities
  • Provide access to the City's amenities through healthful recreational activities

Trail Activities


The trail is available year around for outdoor activities. During Spring, Summer and Fall you may enjoy walking, biking and in line skating on the trail. In Winter, you may use the trail for walking and biking.

The trail may be used for special events such as races or charity walks. Groups wishing to schedule a special event should contact Eau Claire Parks and Recreation at (715)839-5032.

Trail Facts


The trail is 10 feet wide and surfaced with asphalt pavement. All of the bridges are decked and railed for riding safety.

At Short Street, the Eau Claire City Trail connects with the Chippewa River State Trail. Passes are required after this point. A self-registration box is located on the trail at Short Street where passes can be purchased.

 

Trail Rules


By following a few basic rules, the trails can be shared safely by all users.

  • All users should keep to the right side of the trail
  • When traveling side-by-side, stay on the right half of the trail
  • Do not litter
  • Always travel at a safe speed, with due regards to others
  • Pass others on the left. Slow down, give an audible warning such as ringing a bell or calling out "excuse me, passing left", and wait for a reaction before passing.
  • Move off the trail when stopping.
  • Be careful when crossing streets and driveways. Watch for traffic and make sure other drivers are aware of the trail and your presence.
  • Use of helmet and safety gear is highly recommended.
