Street Parking
The City of Eau Claire has 130 on-street meters which are in effect between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, except holidays, at a rate of $0.25 per hour.
All questions regarding parking restrictions should be referred to the Traffic Engineer, located in City Hall, phone 839-4934. A request for a change in parking status must be accompanied by a petition form signed by the property owners affected by the change. After the Traffic Engineer receives the petition, it is then considered by the Public Works Traffic Committee. The Traffic Committee reviews the request and after consideration may refer it to the City Council for action.
The Traffic Engineer is authorized to temporarily waive parking restrictions on public streets. Reasons for such waiver may include: repair, remodeling or construction of buildings where parking immediately adjacent to the job site is required; parking lot construction or repair; loading or unloading moving vans or trucks; or any other reason which in the judgment of the Traffic Engineer would require such waiver. Traffic flow, parking availability, pedestrian traffic and other pertinent factors will be taken into consideration before a decision is made to grant the waiver. No waiver shall exceed 3 months. A fee of $15.00 is charged for each parking waiver issued.
Alternate Side Parking
The alternate side parking ordinance aids the Public Works Department in snow removal and spring street cleaning. The ordinance is in effect from November 1 to May 1 inclusive. The restrictions apply from midnight to 7:00 a.m. If the date after midnight will be an even number, vehicles should be parked on the side of the street having even-numbered addresses. If the date after midnight will be an odd number, vehicles should be parked on the odd-numbered side of the street. The alternate side parking ordinance does not supersede more restrictive parking regulations, such as "No Parking 2 a.m. to 6:00 a.m." or "No Parking This Side of Street."
