Pollinator Friendly Landscaping Maintenance Underway

Post Date:06/04/2026 1:49 PM

If you've noticed the City of Eau Claire's pollinator-friendly landscaping areas being mowed recently, don't worry—it may seem counterintuitive, but it's all part of the plan!

Establishing native pollinator habitat is a long-term process, and mowing is an important step during the first year. Regular mowing helps young native plants develop strong root systems while reducing competition from weeds and other unwanted vegetation.

These areas will likely be mowed 3–5 times this growing season, with additional maintenance possible later in the year. As the native plants become established, they'll gradually require less intervention and eventually become largely self-sustaining.

Creating healthy pollinator habitat doesn't happen overnight, but the results are worth the wait. These plantings will provide food and shelter for butterflies, birds, bees, and other wildlife while creating beautiful, resilient landscapes for our community to enjoy for years to come.

Thank you for your patience as we invest in a healthier future for both nature and our residents!
