The City of Eau Claire is scheduling its citywide property revaluation for 2027 following the recent appointment of Deneen Nagel as City Assessor. We welcome Ms. Nagel to the position and look forward to her leadership and service to our community.
Conducting the project under the leadership of the City's new Assessor from the outset provides continuity throughout the process and helps ensure property assessments continue to reflect current market conditions. Revaluation is a requirement of state law to ensure local property tax is assessed fairly and uniformly among all property owners.
For most property owners, there will be little to no impact this year. The Assessing Division will continue its regular annual work in 2026, including reviewing new construction, property improvements, and significant condition changes as of the annual assessment date of January 1.
The following dates are scheduled:
• September 3 – Assessment notices mailed for this year's qualifying net new construction and
condition changes.
• September 14–15 – Open Book.
• September 22 – Board of Review.
Updated information will be posted on the Assessing Division page of the City’s website at EauClaireWI.gov/Assessing.
Property owners are also reminded that an increase in a property's assessed value does not necessarily mean property taxes will increase. Assessments determine each property's share of the overall tax levy, while the amount of property taxes paid is determined by the budgets and tax levies established by the various taxing jurisdictions—not by the City Assessor.
The City appreciates the community's understanding and assistance with completing the revaluation in 2027. The revaluation will be a comprehensive fair market valuation of all property in the City for fair and uniform distribution of local property tax as required by our Wisconsin statutes and constitution.
