There are eleven members on the Eau Claire City Council that are nominated and elected to three-year terms. Five of the members are elected from aldermanic districts, five of the members are elected at-large, and the Council President is elected at-large. Below is additional information for those interested in being a candidate for City Council.
DATES TO REMEMBER (For Council President & Special At-Large Candidates)
December 1, 2019 - First day to circulate Nomination Papers
December 27, 2019 - Incumbents to file Declaration of Candidacy OR Notification of Noncandidacy
January 7, 2020 - Last day to file Declaration of Candidacy, Nomination Papers and Campaign Registration Statement. All papers and forms are due in the City Clerk's Office by 5 p.m.
January 10, 2020 - Drawing for order of candidate names on ballot will take place in the City Clerk’s Office at 9 a.m.
February 18, 2020 - Spring Primary (if necessary*)
April 7, 2020 - Spring Election
April 21, 2020 - Council Organizational Meeting. Newly elected members take their seats on the Council
* Primary--when required. Pursuant to the provisions of ss. 8.11(1)(b) and 66.01, Wis. Stats., whenever the number of candidates filing nomination papers for a city office exceeds two times the number to be elected to such office, a primary to nominate candidates for the office shall be held in accordance with the provisions of the Wisconsin Statutes.
