What are the parking regulations in downtown Eau Claire?

The Downtown Parking Map (pdf) shows a summary of parking regulations. Call 715-839-4934 with any questions about parking locations, various parking options or general parking questions. In general:

All metered and on-street two-hour parking downtown is enforced from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., 7 days a week.

Permit parking is enforced during the week based on posted times of parking lots.

Most municipal parking lots have free parking after 5:00 p.m. during the week in the permit parking stalls.

Free Parking

Some lots provide longer restricted time frames during the week and some lots have no restrictions at all during evenings or on weekends.


2-hour limit from 9am to 5pm on Monday - Friday
FARWELL STREET LOT:  Free in permit stalls from 5pm to 7am on Monday - Friday, Saturday & Sunday
FOREST STREET LOT: 4-hour limit from 9am to 5pm on Monday - Friday, Saturday & Sunday
 MENOMONIE STREET LOT: Free daily parking
ON STREET:  From 6pm to 2am
RAILROAD LOT: From 6pm to 6am
Free in permit stalls from 5pm to 7am on Monday - Friday, Saturday & Sunday
RIVERVIEW LOT: Free in permit stalls from 5pm to 7am on Monday - Friday, Saturday & Sunday
SEAVER STREET LOT:   From 6pm to 6am on Monday - Friday, Saturday & Sunday


Metered Parking

Metered parking is available adjacent to the public library and in several of the downtown parking lots.

Enforcement & Rate

Parking meters are enforced daily from 6am to 6pm with the exception of holidays. Parking meters & 2-hour parking are not enforced by the City on the following holidays:

 New Year's Day
 Martin Luther King Jr. Day
 Presidents' Day
 Memorial Day
 Independence Day
 Labor Day
 Columbus Day
 Veterans Day
 Thanksgiving Day
 Christmas Eve Day
 Christmas Day
 New Year's Eve Day

Meter parking rates are $0.25 per hour. The exception to this rate is the City's two parking ramps and the Riverside Parking Deck lot, which are $0.50 per hour. View Parking Lots & Ramps. for additional details.

Longer-Term Parking

Several options are available for longer-term parking in downtown Eau Claire. Fees are dependent on location and type of permit being purchased; view parking rates for details.

Parking Ramp Pass: Obtain in Engineering 

Parking ramp passes are purchased in Engineering. Call 715-839-4934 with questions about obtaining passes for the two ramps listed below.

Quarterly Permit: Obtain in Customer Services

Quarterly permits are purchased in Customer Services; permits must be placed in your vehicle after purchasing so as the permit is visible from the front of the vehicle. Call 715-839-4923 with questions about obtaining any of the permits listed below.

This permit provides on-street parking access and access to park in multiple parking lots including:
