Enforcement & Rate
Parking meters and 2-hour parking is enforced from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at a rate of $0.25 per hour, except on holidays.
Exception on Holidays
The City does not enforce parking meters or 2-hour parking on the following holidays:
- New Year's Day
- Martin Luther King Jr. Day
- Presidents' Day
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Columbus Day
- Veterans Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Eve Day
- Christmas Day
- New Year's Eve Day
Watch for signage to provide guidance of on-street parking and contact the City Transportation Engineer at 715-839-4934 with any questions.
On-Street Parking in Downtown Eau Claire Area
6:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. = Two-Hour Parking
On-street parking in the downtown area is restricted to 2-hour parking between the hours of 6:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. This allows for quick stops at a store, restaurant, or business.
6:00 p.m. - 2:00 a.m. = Free Parking
On-street parking in the downtown area is free between the hours of 6:00 p.m. - 2:00 a.m.
2:00 a.m. - 6:00 a.m. = No Parking
There is no on-street parking in the downtown area between 2:00 a.m. - 6:00 a.m.
Parking Status Change
A request for change in parking status must be accompanied by a petition form signed by the property owners affected by the change.
After the City Transportation Engineer receives the petition, it is then considered by the Public Works Traffic Committee who will review the request and upon consideration may refer it to the City Council for action.
Can I obtain a parking waiver?
Leah Ness, PE, PTOE, Deputy City Engineer is authorized to temporarily waive parking restrictions on public streets. Please contact Engineering at 715-839-4934 to obtain a waiver.
When is a parking waiver granted?
Traffic flow, parking availability, pedestrian traffic, and other pertinent factors will be taken into consideration before a decision is made to grant the waiver. Reasons a parking waiver may be granted could include:
- Repair, remodeling or construction of buildings where parking immediately adjacent to the job site is required
- Parking lot construction or repair
- Loading or unloading moving vans or trucks
- Any other reason which in the judgment of the Deputy City Engineer would require such waiver.
What is the charge for a parking waiver & how long is the waiver good for?
A $15.00 fee is charged for each parking waiver that is granted and issued. No parking waiver shall exceed three months.
