An online permitting software is available to you for applying for permits, paying fees, and scheduling your own in-person inspections.  Paper applications are no longer accepted. 

• Commercial Plumbing Plan Reviews (delegated August 2024): Plan Reviews within the scope of Table 382.20-2 must be submitted to the City of Eau Claire for plan review and approval, do not submit permit application for projects within this review scope until the review fee has been paid.  All Commercial Plumbing Plan Reviews outside of the review limitations of Table 382.20-2 shall be submitted to Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS) for review, projects within this review scope shall submit State approved stamped plan set and conditional approval letter with permit application.

• Commercial Building and/or HVAC Plan Reviews (delegated March 2025): Plan Reviews within the below plan review scope must be submitted to the City of Eau Claire for plan review and approval, do not submit permit application for projects within this review scope until the review fee has been paid.  All Commercial Building and/or HVAC Plan Reviews outside of the below review limitations shall be submitted to Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS) for review, projects within DSPS review scope shall submit State approved stamped plan set and conditional approval letter with permit application.

• The City of Eau Claire is delegated by the State of Wisconsin DSPS to review buildings or structures within the following parameters:
  • New building/structure containing less than 50,000 cubic feet of total volume.
  • An addition to a building/structure where area of the addition results in the entire building/structure containing less than 50,000 cubic feet of total volume.
  • An addition containing no more than 2,500 square feet of total floor area and no more than one floor level, provided the largest roof span does not exceed 18 feet and the exterior wall height does not exceed 12.
  • An alteration of space in a building containing less than 100,000 cubic feet of total building volume.

• Buildings/structures exempt from DSPS plan review per SPS 361.30 and minor alterations shall be submitted for permit application as no review is required, unless determined otherwise by the City of Eau Claire Inspections Department.
