NEW! slurry seal program
2017 Slurry Seal Information
-List of Streets and Maps   (indicating which City streets are included in the program)

When will it take place? The week of August 21-25, depending on the weather.

What is it? A slurry seal is the application of a mixture of water, asphalt emulsion, aggregate (very small crushed rock), and additives to an existing asphalt pavement surface. A slurry seal is similar to a fog seal except the slurry seal has aggregates as part of the mixture.

Which streets receive this treatment? Regular seal coat applications are recommended on surfaces paved with asphalt, slurry seal, and micro-surfacing to help protect against UV damage. Slurry seal is a resurfacing treatment. It contains aggregate for a thicker application and provides a new wearing surface for traffic.

Chip Sealing Program
Rolling Chip seal_resized300x300 2017 Chip Sealing Information
List of Streets and Maps  (indicating which City streets are included in the program)

When will it take place? The week of August 21-25.

What is it? Chip Sealing is an annual cost effective preventative maintenance method that is designed to improve the quality of
your street, extend the life of the street, and delay the need for resurfacing or total reconstruction.

Which streets receive this treatment? It is intended for streets that are still in good condition, structurally sound and in need of little repair. Streets that have been paved with hot bituminous concrete, are at least 12 years old, and have a pavement condition index (PCI) of 50 or greater are potential streets to be included in the program.

What does the process involve? All streets included in the program are first crack-sealed and repaired. The chip sealing process involves applying emulsified oil followed by a covering of 3/8'' fractured washed gravel chips. Then the excess chips are swept up approximately 24-48 hours after placement.

How often will streets be chip sealed? It varies. Some streets may be chip sealed again in 7 to 10 years.

How many streets are included in this program? We seal approximately 10 to 15 miles of streets each year.

What else should I know if this is taking place on my street or on a street near me? Drivers should expect delays/detours, and obey all construction signage and temporary “No Parking Signs”.
Crack Sealing Program

What is it?
Crack sealing is an annual program that we use to extend the useful life of the street.

Which streets receive this treatment? Streets that are 2 to 10 years old or are included as part of the annual chip seal program (more information above) are evaluated and crack-sealed each year.

What does the process involve? The process involves widening the cracks out, blowing the cracks clean, pouring liquid asphalt into them, and then placing a biodegradable paper product over the asphalt to allow for vehicle traffic.

Did you know? Approximately 113 miles of cracks are sealed annually, using 60 tons of liquid asphalt.
